Each year Waddell welcomes international students (Academic Volunteers (AVs)) from our four target elementary languages (French, German, Japanese, and Mandarin) who come to Waddell to volunteer in our 2nd-5th grade classrooms. These students provide a vital service in supporting our teachers in the lapse of funded TA positions. The AVs are not compensated for their time at Waddell so, in return for their service, Waddell families open their homes and welcome these AVs into their families for the duration of their stay.
In order to continue growing our program we need families willing to host our AVs. Families can opt for an AV who speaks the target language their child(ren) are studying in order to increase the exposure to the language, or an AV from a different language not familiar to your household.
For more information please see the 8.23.2017 AVS and Host Information document. If you are interested in possibly hosting an AV then please complete and return the host family questionnaire contained in the same document to academicvolunteer@waddellptso.org. Completing the questionnaire does not obligate you to a hosting commitment, it only means that we will contact you once we have information that an AV who matches your profile is coming to Waddell. Host families always have the ability to pass on hosting.
